MY HEALTH INFO
WELCOME TO MY HEALTH INFO - WEARABLE PERSONALIZED HEALTH ASSISTANT
Overview of the Project
Welcome to my Silicon Valley Science Fair Project web page. I presented My Health Info - a voice assistant based on Alexa that connects to wearable sensors to inform and educate the user about their vitals and their significance. I had a lot of fun doing both the project and presentation. In this website, you will find what I did, why and how I did it and some useful tips, including links to all the useful information if you were to create a project of your own.
RESEARCH
Background Information - This is an Important Area of Work
This project is about use of wearable sensors and Natural Language Processing and a whole lot of open source Python code to stitch together open-source Wearable-based Personalized Health Information System. Given that this is a middle school project and I had no support from my school, I decided to keep the scope to be sufficient to show an 'end to end' system without adding commercial type features that would be repetitive for my purpose. Imagine that you are a health-conscious enthusiast or a person requiring some type of chronic disease care (heart, blood sugar, hypertension etc). The system I developed allows you to wear the sensors - in my case, oximeter (it measures Blood oxygen concentration) and thermometer, and automatically transmits this info to a remote server where the user can just communicate in natural language to inquire about their health and wellness. Imagine that someone is not feeling well - they don't need to get out of bed, they can communicate with Alexa (or its App version on a smartphone) verbally and get all the info and insights they need, as if talking to a nurse. Since the data is also available securely on a remote server, it can also be made available to other authorized users such as health providers, caregivers etc, enabling telemedicine. To facilitate verbal communication in Natural language, I utilized Amazon Alexa Skills kit to create and publish a skill called 'My Health Info'. I will be describing how I accomplished this and the steps required to develop something similar.
HEALTHYPI HAT FOR RASPBERRY PI
In an effort to gain a better understanding of the world around us, we have recently begun to use a new technique to investigate the organization and functionality of the diverse parts of our experimental model. We are currently looking to expand this work by collaborating with other labs who have the facilities and prior experience to investigate this project further.
ROBOTIC MOVEMENT
With work previously done by a former lab member, we have developed a powerful tool for use in the identification and characterization of the processes in our model system. A major advantage of this development is its improved sensitivity, which allows it to detect subtle dynamic property changes in response to our experimentation.
THE INTERNET OF THINGS
We still have only a very limited understanding of most aspects about our planet. Answering questions about this is essential for understanding the mechanistic role it plays on other scientific processes, and for developing tools to further explore this research avenue with more sensitive measurements and improved data collection.
